I'm back from the North American Beekeeping Federation Conference! Dutch Gold sponsored the Breakfast today...Yummmm. I saw quite a few people checking out some Dutch Gold honey and McLure's maple syrup to put on their pancakes! But WOW was it hard to wake up at 5am! Anyways, there were quite a few beekeepers that seemed used to waking up early. Even at those early hours, I got the feeling that most beekeepers are very realistic people. There was much chatter about hives and mites and such, but overall there was a great awareness that many of them would lose large portions of their bee populations over the winter. Don't get me wrong, they are very happy people but it seems with time, beekeepers, just like anyone else in the agricultural industry, know that most of what happens is out of their control. I think it is a trait that most people these days would not be able to deal with.
The holidays went smoothly, now I am gearing up to attend the American Beekeeping Federation Annual Conference is January 8-12! This year it is right down the road in Hershey, PA. I hope to meet lots of beekeepers and share my knowledge of True Source Honey! Come back soon to hear about the conference!
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! We received our first snowfall here at the Lancaster, PA plant this morning. Brrrrrrr! During summer time, the bees sometimes get to be a little too much for me and the other Dutch Gold employees to sit at the picnic tables outside, and it only gets worse towards the end of summer! Like every year, the bees are trying to store up their supplies for the winter. It has been about a month since I have seen a bee here. Hopefully all of my bee friends have returned safely to their hives, which kind of makes me wonder...where are their hives? A bee will only fly a maximum distance of 3 miles to collect nectar, which means their hives are not far away! Maybe when it gets warm again I can snoop around and see if there are any backyard beekeepers close by that I do not know about!
Hey! Glad you found my page! I'm hoping to inform and entertain you as I, Nugget, go through my travels in the world of honey. Please check back to hear all of my buzz.
