Snitz Creek Brewery & Restaurant

July 05, 2016

With a name conceptualized after the co-owners purchased adjacent properties backing into the Snitz Creek in Lebanon County, PA and a theme speaking to the love of fly fishing out west, Snitz Creek Brewery & Restaurant, located in the heart of the city Lebanon, delivers everything you would expect from an establishment run by a pair of outdoorsmen.  A side walkway features homegrown hops vining overhead, the outdoor patio provides a casual setting to gather over food and drink, and the mounted solar panels harness the sun’s energy in heating the water for the brewery.

With the brew kettle positioned to the right of the bar, lucky drinkers get the full experience watching steam rise from the boil, the sound of a motor pumping during a “mash in”, and a brewer intensely focused at work.  To the left, an open kitchen churns out house specials beckoning of PA Dutch Lebanon County staples.  Start with Shuey’s Pretzels (est. 1927) and add a sandwich dubbed The Snitzer featuring a burger topped with Seltzer’s Lebanon Bologna (est. 1902) and a side of rosemary fries.

Lucky for beer drinkers, these locally known favorites don’t stay in the kitchen.  Try the Shuey’s Pretzel Wheat (4.5% ABV / 12 IBUs) with 10 lbs of pretzels per batch and a smoked meat rauchbier, the Seltzer’s Smokehaus 7 (8.5% ABV / 22 IBUs), for the proper fermented accompaniment to the meal.  You won't skip dessert with an offering like the Opera Fudge Stoudt (5.9% ABV / 24 IBUs) developed with Wertz Candies (est. 1931) to mimic the famous "fudge" dessert (dark chocolate coated butter cream). The surprise on the menu was the Apple-Weise Wheat (4.8% ABV, 19 IBUs).  Its creamy texture has notes of Dutch Gold honey and finishes with a hint of apple - enough to please the fruit lover yet subtle enough to be enjoyed by all.

If you are looking for a taste of Lebanon, stop in to Snitz Creek Brewery & Restaurant at 7 N 9th St in downtown Lebanon or the new Tasting Room at 318 Taxiway Road in Annville.  Find menus and additional details at snitzcreekbrewery.com.
