HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup)

May 06, 2013

The most recent news concerning CCD takes another look at high fructose corn syrup. Many beekeepers feed their bees HFCS especially during winter months when temperatures are too cold for bees to gather nectar. The ingredient became a popular choice for beekeepers in the 70's, but researchers at the University of Illinois have recently published research that links HFCS to colony collapse disorder. As 90% of corn today is GM and treated with a number of pesticides, it seems that these pesticides linger in HFCS and weaken the immune systems of honey bees.
